Early Start to University for NSmen

From 2007, NSmen will be allowed to begin university studies four months earlier than other students and graduates sooner. This policy is applicable only to those who have a place booked at any of the three universities here and are not enrolled in NUS medicine, dentistry or law courses, as these degrees are regulated by external professional bodies and follow a more fixed structure.

Before this, NSmen could only enter university in August, when the academic year starts. However, NS has since been shortened to two years, and NSmen now complete their training around December or March. With the shortened NS training, the old policy would have meant that these boys have to wait four to seven months before the universities open.

The universities are able to offer NSmen this option of matriculating early, as courses are split into modules, allowing some to be taken earlier than others.
