PHILOSOPHICAL.

Sunday, 27 NOV, LUNCH at the SUNTEC areas.

Time: According to the Theory of Punctuality, it could be referred that a given specific time of arrival is totally useless so i will set a time-of-arrival range from 11.15am to 1.30pm, after which you will be tried for lateless, be it you have no apparent good reason, then you will be deemed guilty with unpunctuality intent. Those who have church ending after 1.30pm, you will have a get-out-of-jail-free card and will have to make your way to the meeting location asap.

For those who have no damn idea what on the third rock from the sun im trying to say, just freakin' come by 1.30 or i will charge you with lateness!

Specific location: Aint 'the Suntec areas' specific enough?? Okok. It might (might only) be NYDC cos i miss mudpies. Or anywhere around the fountain of poverty. But of course everyone can give their opinion which will be finally judged fairly by 5 people, namely me, myself, I, MJ. and yours truly.

And if you wanna give good opinions you can msg me cos i wont be reading this for a week like duh. I'll be in camp of course.

Rationale of Meeting: Because everyone really, really, really, really, really misses each other real badly. But everyone misses christina the most. And her ego balloon better not be inflating at this moment.

You know, Chris has supernatural powers. One night when you least expect it and you think hell no you will meet Christina 15 minutes from now, and THEN she appears in front of you across the road 15 minutes later. Beware, people. She could just knock on your door later and say, "Harlow! I know you miss me!!"

And knowing that very few people will read this post cos of studying, being in-camp and just being plain blur, i will message everyone. And you have to reply a yes, a no, a maybe, a 'should be' or 'if i can wake up'.

And if you never get a msg from me by friday, your phone is still broken. Or simply because i dont have your number. Or i really really really love you so much to skip your name.

MJ, nu-mah nu-mah eh!

Managing Sleep at Exam time - Why is it so important? Advice from
the Counselling Service

At this time in the academic year many students are cutting back on
sleep as they try to prepare for exams and other assessment
requirements. However, research indicates that students whose sleep
patterns are regular on a daily basis, and from 7 to 8 hours,
outperform students who are sleep deprived. One of the reasons for
this outcome is that people tend to make serious errors of judgement
when sleep deprived. Sleeplessness contributes to cognitive deficits
that directly interfere with memory and learning, affect regulation,
and the brain's integration of thinking and feeling. Not only is the
sleep-deprived student more likely to make an error on a paper, but
has difficulty managing his/her emotional response to the exam and
will use up time during and after the exam worrying instead of
working.

The sleep profile of university students is similar to that of shift
workers, who generally have very poor sleep quality. Symptoms
include difficulty falling asleep, daytime sleepiness, daily late
afternoon napping in order to cope, and weekend sleeps-ins to
compensate for all night sleep deficits. Consequently, the brain's
sleep/arousal cycle is affected and you can find yourself finding it
difficult to concentrate during the day while studying, and yet being
wide awake when you want to sleep.

In some academic and employment subcultures, sleep loss is viewed as
evidence of the young person's commitment, ambitiousness and energy.
This is in sharp contradiction to the fact that sleep deprivation is
associated with poorer academic outcomes, and higher rates of both
motor vehicle and workplace accidents.

After the last black tie event, we now have an up and coming casual-dress event.

Date: 03 December 2005, Saturday
Time: to be confirmed
Venue: SAJC
Event: BBQ but actually, pot luck because if just BBQ, there won't be enough food

A last chance to have fun in the old school where we had plenty of great times. It'll be a combined BBQ- from J1s to J3s/4s (this I'm not too sure). The J1s and J2s will be doing the babecueing over the one pathetic pit that will be present. Mr Lam wants to book you all asap and he hopes most of us can turn up. Sadly, there is no other date because the week before would be his birthday, and the week after there will be no more electricity in the school. Apologies are sent out to the commandos who'll be outfield during that time.

***

Meanwhile, a personal note to all out there:
--> Those in camp, do take care and survive each week with hope! Hope that the week will pass more quickly and hope that there'll be more nights out and earlier book outs and later book ins.
--> Those in school, study hard because of the looming exams, but the hols will be great and the girlies can finally spend more quality time together!
--> Those working, stay strong and enjoy your work!

Learn the Chicken Little Dance!

"The simulacra is never that which conceals the truth- it is the truth which conceals that there is none.
The simulacrum is true."
(Ecclesiastes)

That's an epigraph- a quote you write before an essay or paper. My prof was going through it today in lecture and this si one of the most thought-stimulating pieces I've ever done for this module. The simulacrum is in essence, a simulation of the original. Thus, it is not the original so it conceals the truth because you look at the simulation rather than the actualy object. Yet it is true because it is a simulation of something that is non-existent and so "there is none". Therefore, the simulation is the truth.

Ecclesiastes is a book in the Old Testament of the Bible. But did it actually say anything like that? No, not in the English version, in any of the versions, nor Hebrew nor Greek. Simply because this whole epigraph is a simulacra. Jean Baudrillard is a man who thinks too much.

I can't believe I've got to learn such things for cultural studies. So much for enjoying all the time watching movies like Dawn of the Dead and reading Superman comics and listening to music and all sorts of media flicks.

***

If simulation is the truth, then dissimulation is a lie.

***

"Everything I say is a lie."

That's my favourite line of the day. If everything I say is a lie, then that's a truth. And because I'm telling the truth while saying that everything that I say is a lie, then I am lying. Which is true. And so you will be caught like a pendulum, swinging between both ends because you can never know which is the truth, and which is falsity.

I am getting exhausted from having insufficient rest. And I refuse to let myself rest when I need to study. Is there something wrong with me? Somebody psychoanalyse me please. And the sudden entrance to town after 3 months and 1 week have proved to be too much for this poor soul. I need retail therapy because there's a lot of things out there that I want, and I want 'em bad!
Oh yes. Christmas party. Winnie will make sandwich rolls, not log cakes. It's a simulacra of log cakes but much easier to make. I'm telling the truth.

When i work, nobody cares. Whan i rest, everyone stares.
