Augustus Gloop! Augustus Gloop!
The great big greedy nincompoop!

How long could we allow this beast
To gorge and guzzle, feed and feast
On everything he wanted to?
Great Scott! It simply wouldn't do!

However long this pig might live,
We're positive he'd never give
Even the smallest bit of fun
Or happiness to anyone.

So what we do in cases such
As this, we use the gentle touch,
And carefully we take the brat
And turn him into something that

Will give great pleasure to us all --
A doll, for instance, or a ball,
Or marbles or a rocking horse.
But this revolting boy, of course,

Was so unutterably vile,
So greedy, foul, and infantile

He left a most disgusting taste
Inside our mouths, and so in haste

We chose a thing that, come what may,
Would take the nasty taste away.

'Come on!' we cried, 'The time is ripe
To send him shooting up the pipe!

He has to go! It has to be!'
And very soon, he's going to see
Inside the room to which he's gone
Some funny things are going on.

But don't, dear children, be alarmed;
Augustus Gloop will not be harmed,
Although, of course, we must admit
He will be altered quite a bit.

He'll be quite changed from what he's been,
When he goes through the fudge machine:

Slowly, wheels go round and round,
and cogs begin to grind and pound;

A hundred knives go slice, slice, slice;
We add some sugar, cream, and spice;

We boil [it] for a minute more,
Until we're absolutely sure

That all the greed and all the gall
Is boiled away for once and all.

Then out he comes! And now! By grace!
A miracle has taken place!

This boy, who only just before
Was loathed by men from shore to shore,

This greedy brute, this louse's ear,
Is loved by people everywhere!
For who could hate or bear a grudge
Against a luscious bit of fudge?"

Hands United - The CD Album

will be launched on 11 August 2005. A limited edition will be on sale at all major music stores around Singapore. With every purchase of the "Hands United" album, you get a chance to win a pair of return
air-tickets to Hong Kong, courtesy of Cathay Pacific Airways.

Grab your copy of "Hands United" today while stocks last. With our "Hands United", we can help rebuild homes for the tsunami victims and provide them with a better tomorrow.

This "Hands United" album was born out of a desire by the local music community to help and reach out to the victims and survivors of the Dec 26 tsunami.

The disaster struck a sympathetic chord with Singapore's own Malay artiste, Jaliboy. He was moved to write and record a song about the tragedy. As news of his efforts spread, like-minded musicians from the English, Chinese and Tamil music industry were motivated to contribute their talents and time too.

Regional and household singers include Cai Chunjia, Jaliboy, John Molina, Kit Chan, Sun Ho, Wendi Koh, just to name a few. With renowned songwriters and lyricists, Executive Producers of "Hands United"

Eric Ng and Danny Yeo brought together a group of like-minded musicians
and artisites from Singapore's music industry like never before ... to
raise funds through the sales of this charity song recording.

Having just spent a little more than 120 hours at home because of my MC, i understand that this is the longest period in my humble abode i have had in many months as well as will have in future months. Come to think of it, when we start working all we have is 2 days a week off. Anything longer than that has to be the rare public holiday (if we're not in the service profession) or taking a leave with is roughly 14/21 days a year? And how much of those 2 days are actually left for ourselves? Travelling, waiting, chores, etc.. Time does seems so short. Month long breaks will be a thing of the past (unless we're jobless that is). Doesn't school just seem so wonderful now? Imagine, 40 years , assuming retirement age 65 and initial starting age for work is 25, of waking up and going to work, coming back to sleep and off to work again the next day. Unless of course we get a job thats really fun or worth doing so its actually something to look forward to. The yuppie lifestyle does seem attractive, work for a stint, quit and have some time for personal stuff and when the money runs low or what was to be done has be accomplished, get a job again and restart cycle. So much for job security, and how many such professions are there? Sigh, enter the workforce. What a dreary thing.

Six Reasons Why Jesus Cannot Feed The Five Thousand In Singapore

In Luke 9:10-17, there is the Biblical account of the miraculous feeding of five thousand people by Jesus Christ with just five loaves of bread and two fishes. If Jesus is physically present in modern Singapore today, I sincerely doubt that a similar incident could be repeated here. Here are some of the reasons:

1. Jesus would have been in violation of the Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act.
Under section 8 titled "Restraining orders against officials or members of religious group or institution," the Act clearly states: "The Minister may make a restraining order against any priest, monk, pastor, imam, elder, office-bearer or any other person who is in a position of authority in any religious group... causing feelings of enmity, hatred, ill-will or hostility between different religious groups."

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Well well, I remember one year ago we were there sitting at the gallery waiting for time to crawl by while watching students and teachers, and eventually JJ Lin play musical chairs. And the rest of us were, well, just wasting our time. It's been a year since then huh. Time sure does fly. And all you guys are now serving the nation! Heh. So just keep telling yourself that it's worth the two years in there for the sake of this country and its prosperity (seriously though, contributing economically might be more effective, like..eating at Cartel? heh.).

Don't know how everyone's going to be spending this day, but I know I won't be anywhere near the Padang, or even nearby catching the display of fireworks. Sadly! (And this was why I wanted to watch fireworks a week ago but nvm la, Joel's bday more impt haha)

Well enjoy this break everyone! Because it's going to be back to army, back to school, back to work for us all come 10th August. I still think the nation's birthday does deserve at least another day of hoiday just for commemoration's sake. Or maybe should just rewind time and go back to JC days where 10th Aug was still a holiday. Well, guess I shouldn't be complaining after having months of break. Heh. So to everyone... enjoy your day ahead!

Non-SAF Item

I've got such lousy consitution. During boat training, i got noisely seasick, leaving my lunch and dinner in the waters of coney island. And being soaked at night due to e sea left me with flu. Resulting in me getting hospitalised last night after falling out after 8km of routemarch. Didn't get warded though, just put under observation. Let out at 2am so back to camp (there goes my long weekend) and out this morning. With the ear temperature taking thing, whats the purpose of using the "other methods"? Especially the more difficult ones... Lets just say its not a nice feeling to have something poked up in there... -_-"

Full Spectrum Leader

To motivate and engage a new generation of IT-savvy soldiers who are familiar with weapons and systems used in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the new Full Spectrum Leader (FSL) game has been developed under a project agreement between DSTA and the Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT).

FSL is a training tool for platoon commanders in battlefield co-ordination at the platoon level. The game challenges the player to understand the significance of terrain analysis, his position in influencing the battle, and the potential fratricide situations that can occur during battle. One of the key features in FSL is the focus on firepower and manoeuvre techniques taken by a platoon for operations in an urban environment.

FSL is developed with the SAF?s unique training requirements in mind. It contains realistic 3D models of SAF soldiers, weapons like SAR21, as well as an urban terrain modelled to local training environments. Voice commands were also recorded from real soldiers to provide a distinct Singaporean flavour. SAF platoon tactics and procedures were also taken into account during the game development.
