Baby Charlotte all of 1 month. My cousin's daughter. His name is Special. (Fortunately not reflected in the IC) I'm not kidding. Imagine, the kid will grow up saying, "My father is Special." How does that sound. gawd.

Remember the cut straws sealed with a bit of pipecleaner which was then injected with liquid from a lightstick used at LTC for the night walk? Well there's a shop in bedok (near Bedok Blk 85 Food Centre, we should ll go eat there one day) that sells it at 100 pieces for $4 and the syringe for $1. I have the namecard of the shop so look for me if you want the details.

Introduction to SISPEC- in civilian terms.
Pls dont try too hard to understand, its really simple.

We are all students from this school. This school has 7 faculties. Each faculty has 4 classes. Each class has 4 discussion groups.

The faculties, although learning the exact same thing altogether, has different names. Arts, Business, Commerce, Drugs (students learn to take drugs and are therefore really sluggish), Engineering, Finance, and erm, Golf studies.

Like all schools this one has a principal and vice principal. Each faculty has a Head tutor, plus many tutors, all taught to teach the same subject.

Being a school, of course the students have to wear uniforms. Obiang green ones with black and brown patches. Everyone, yes everyone, including head tutor has to wear the same uniform. Just that the tutors have extra funny stripes on their uniform. But then again, these stripes are just pieces of cloth. But in this school, anyone with extra pieces of cloth on their uniform have the right to shout loudly at students. Whether for right or wrong reasons. Sad right.

This school has nice hostels which you have to clean daily or the tutors will raise their voice. And they are free! But there are occational rats that will come visiting.

The cafeteria provides food which are less than appealing. Thankfully you dont have to pay for them.

The extra facilities in the school includes a playground with fun obstacles in it like monkeybars. There is also a soccer field, but soccer is not allowed in the school. There is also a multi-purpose hall, but it seem to only serve one purpose- to collect dust.

What we learn in this school? Really nothing much. Just a few exotic weapons, how to use them, how to navigate using a map and compass, how to deal with enemies shooting at you, how to run 5km without stopping, and how to accept the fact that other faculties have happy hour and yours dont.

There are occational excursions where the faculty is brought to the school's favourite excursion site- the forests. Here we learn many things which the normal curriculum will never teach us. Like how to find a suitable outfield-toilet site, how to sleep during sentry duty without getting caught, how to dig for 2 days without sleeping, and what to do when a smelly wildboar intrudes and ransacks your fieldpack.

And of course, being a school, appropriate disciplinary action is taken against naughty students. Either they are given detention class where they go home late, or made to do 'Garddootee', where students walk around the school late at night holding a heavy gun.

But seriously what does SISPEC stand for? Till today, the question is yet to be answered definitely. Over time each faculty had created their own answers. For D faculty, it's 'Slack Infront of Superiors Plus Extra Canteen breaks'. Atrocious. For C faculty, it's 'Suffering Innocent Students Pressing to Escape Confinements'.

That's SISPEC for you.

MONKEYS IN A CAGE

Scientists place five monkeys in a cage. Suspended from the roof of the cage is a large bunch of ripe bananas. Inside the cage are many boxes. After several minutes of staring at the bananas, the monkeys begin to stack the boxes in order to reach them.

Each time any of the monkeys tries to stack the boxes, the researchers spray all of the monkeys with a high-pressure hose. This continues until all monkeys stop trying to reach the bananas. Once all five monkeys have been thoroughly conditioned, Phase Two begins.

The scientists replace one original monkey with a newcomer. Upon seeing the bananas, the sixth monkey begins to stack boxes and is immediately attacked by the remaining "trained" monkeys. No water is sprayed, but the remaining monkeys still won't let the newcomer try for the bananas.

Once the newcomer is trained, the scientists replace another monkey. Again, the newcomer is attacked each time it tries to reach the bananas. Even the sixth monkey takes part in the attack, even though it has never been sprayed.

This continues until all five original monkeys have been replaced. No replacement monkeys have ever been sprayed to keep them away from the bananas. Yet, even with 5 monkeys who have never been punished for stacking boxes now in the cage, none of them will try for the bananas.

Seems exactly the way the army is training its soldiers...

Lets go somewhere this sat night.

All must agree with the above statement.
Failure to comply will result in the redundancy of a statement like above.
Because if no one comply, no one will go.
And if no one goes, then the above statement will be, erm.. redundant.

And i need volunteers. So please volunteer yourself volunteerily.
I need volunteers to volunteerily volunteer themselves and others to
-think of a place to eat
-spread the msg
-turn up for the damn outing

Knowing that joel will NEVER come online (take a look at his blog man, if you look closer you will spot cobwebs), let me just say that we all could celebrate a belated birthday(27 jul) for him. Even if he magically appears online and sees this msg, then whatever, surprises are never meant to be anyway, he'll just play along.

But even if he's not free on sat, we could still all go out and celebrate erm, chris's 2-weeks-since-she-left-us-day? Or the girl's start-of-uni-pre-party? Or my unbirthday. Whatever.

Saturday is 2 days from now, so we should act fast! Volunteers, where for art thou?

Soldiers forced to shout 'bang' as the Army runs out of ammunition

A senior Army officer said that the ammunition crisis was "shambolic" and came at the worst possible time for the Army.

He said: "There is nothing more dispiriting than soldiers having to go on exercise and shout 'bang, bang' because there is not enough blank ammunition. Any benefit from the exercise will be lost because soldiers just won't take it seriously. Why should soldiers who are being sent to Iraq, where their lives will be endangered, be forced to shout 'bang' in training because someone in the Ministry of Defence can't do basic arithmetic? It's a disgrace."

The science of love
Scientists are finding that, after all, love really is down to a chemical addiction between people.

..Why do voles fall in love?

The details of what is going on—the vole story, as it were—is a fascinating one. When prairie voles have sex, two hormones called oxytocin and vasopressin are released. If the release of these hormones is blocked, prairie-voles' sex becomes a fleeting affair, like that normally enjoyed by their rakish montane cousins. Conversely, if prairie voles are given an injection of the hormones, but prevented from having sex, they will still form a preference for their chosen partner. In other words, researchers can make prairie voles fall in love—or whatever the vole equivalent of this is—with an injection.

A clue to what is happening—and how these results might bear on the human condition—was found when this magic juice was given to the montane vole: it made no difference. It turns out that the faithful prairie vole has receptors for oxytocin and vasopressin in brain regions associated with reward and reinforcement, whereas the montane vole does not. The question is, do humans (another species in the 3% of allegedly monogamous mammals) have brains similar to prairie voles?

can people actually be made to fall in and out of love?
is love that simple to understand?

ah. so out of touch with the world. Army's a pain. Got a call from the Company office informing me of some dragonboating event that requires moi to grace with my divine presence. ie to add manpower to the cheering squad. wtf. 1400hrs at Benjamin sheares bridge carpark. Which i have no idea where that is.

Hope every else is have a good time, either slacking, playing, working or plain stoning while waiting for somehting to happen. I for one can't wait for time to pass. Even better, jump to 16momths into the future. Yes, that'd be great...

There's a certain smugness that you feel when you breeze onto the bus after bookout. pass the card-reader which greets you politely with a BEEP and at the same time graciously deducting the maximum fare from your adult ez-link card, while other after you find that lo and behold their ez-link cards have surpassed their use-by date and are now frantically digging into their pockets for loose change, thereby forming a huge jam at the card reader. However, that feeling evaporates when its realised with a groan that the bus is going to ages to depart. On why i didn't tell everyone to get new cards: How was i to know they didn't know. bleah.
