The futuristic thriller Gattaca invites audiences to enter an alternate future in which "designer people" forged in test tubes rule society and genetics determine a person's future. In this world, a person with the right genetic stuff can do anything; but a person with even a slight defect or even potential for a defect is a prisoner of his own biological cells.

The film stars Ethan Hawke(!) as Vincent Freeman, a young man determined to break out of his imperfect genetic destiny and see his dreams of traveling into space come true.
Also starring Jude Law & Uma Thurman.

Molecular basis for Mozart effect revealed
    http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994918

New research has revealed a molecular basis for the "Mozart effect" - the observation that a brief stint of Mozart, but not other music, may improve learning and memory.

Rats that heard a Mozart sonata expressed higher levels of several genes involved in stimulating and changing the connections between brain cells, the study showed. The team, including the researcher who first proposed the Mozart effect, hope the results will help them design music therapy treatments for people suffering from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.

The Mozart effect first came to light in a 1993 paper in Nature (vol 365, p 611), when Fran Rauscher, a neuroscientist at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, US, and colleagues showed that college students who listened to Mozart's Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major for 10 minutes performed better on a spatial reasoning test than students who listened to new age music or nothing at all.

The findings sparked excitement from the general public - specially designed Mozart CDs leapt up the music charts - and some scepticism from the scientific community.

the vicious cycle of dressing properly

u know how to get the students in college to wear their uniform the correct way.. (ie: white socks, blue/black/white rubber bands, longer skirts, ear studs) ...everynow and then, scare the students by making an announcement that a spot check will be carried out next [insert day here] better still, tell the teachers that a very strict spot check will be carried out the next day and that this information is top secret and they are not to inform their students about the spotcheck. some nice tutors will somehow warn his/her students about it and this 'info' will spread like wild fire. on the day of the supposed spot check, everyone will be dressed the right way and when it is not carried out.. everyone will think that .. shoot this means they'll check another day and continue to wear the uniform 'nicely' for the next few days. the spot check is not actually carried out and when the teachers start to find big problems with our dressing again.. the same cycle is repeated

dont think we dunno what ur doing ok =P we know your tricks.. haha..uh anyway personally.. i think the teachers should lighten up on the school rules.. i really dont think that theres any harm in wearing coloured hair accessories or socks or earrings.. what harm does using these things cause to anyone??? and slightly dyed hair too.. if its really jus a little and not shocking blond or something i think they should just close one eye.. it really doesnt make any difference does it. look at the some of the top jcs man.. eg rj, vj .. theyre not staunch about the rules and yet their students come out tops.. really whats the point of being so strict.. college life is already tough enough as it is.. why make it any harder for us.. if inconsequential things such as wearing blue socks and pink rubber bands and earrings make us feel happy, cant they just let us be? cut us some slack man.

Alert! The Bible u r holding rite now holds the key to unlockin the future...
It predicted the assasination of JFK, the attack on the Twin Towers, Hitler and the Holocaust, Bush's election victory, how coincidental is that? Most recently, it predicted the end of the world in the year 2006.

    Useless fact of the day

    The Google Machine
Google is perhaps the most popular and powerful search engine.Founded in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, with one million dollars initial investment from friends, family and other investors (including one of the founders of Sun Microsystems), Google is currently one of the few internet businesses reporting a profit. The name is derived from Googol, which is the figure 1 followed by 100 zeroes.

    Chronicles of a Psychotic Neighbour

    Part 1 -Spotted

As we were going to church today, the neighbour was spotted hanging around the carpark looking psychotic as usual. we ignored his existance as usual..careful to avoid any eye contact. but a quick glance in his direction and i saw tt he had this rather lost look on his face. more of like a grimace actually..as though he was trying really hard to figure out where he was...maybe he really was lost.

The funty story. By funty. Ending.

The dumb crabby wabby then realised that nomatter what he studies, he will fail eventually. So what is the point of studying? It's useless. So the damn crab just held his breath and eventually died. This ends the story of the crabby wabby. And dun even expect cliffhangers or sequels.

    THE END.

    thoughts...

are the sheep to be blamed for getting lost, or is it due to the misguidence of the sheperd? do the teachers have a right to place the blame on us for fairing badly for the block tests? "i don't know what you all have been learning in the last term." they say, to that my response is "well, obviously we don't know what you have been teaching." but reality shows us that the onus of scoring is on the students and not the teachers but what then come to school for if not to rely on them for help and guidence? if they cannot do their job should something not be done? its not as if us students have a choice not to attend lessons, so in actual fact we are being subjected to inefficient use of our time. 'welfare loss', people. diverging off the original topic, and the principal is blind to such imperfections in the system. such is the failings of a hierachy. everyone looks up, so nobody's looking at the lowest rung. quoting Mr Lee TJ, "suicide", refering to the bottom as they become ignored and neglected. problems with different levels of power. like a democracy, people are trusting the people that they chose to make decisions for them because they cant cant trust themselves to make the right ones. such irony. but what gets missed most of the time is that the lower rungs make up the majority, and it is the majority that gives the leaders their power. the majority are the resources, the measurement of influence. As such, the school is essentially a place for the students, thus shouldn't the focus be on the welfare of the population rather than on the terachers or in the school's eyes, its own ranking and reputation? its gains nothing in defending the teacher's teaching ability. of course this may work to shake up the students and rouse them into a studying frenzy. it may have worked before thats why its being done now. but there is no ceteris paribus now is there? i hope their right.
