华中改名的反思

　　新加坡南洋华侨中学（The Chinese High School）以及华中初级学院（Hwa Chong Junior College）的名字将双双走进历史，取而代之的是“华侨中学”（Hwa Chong Institution）。

　　基于各自的归属感，人们会为当年这所由南洋（东南亚）华侨齐心协力在新加坡建立起来，号称东南亚最高华文学府的变迁，发出各自的失落感叹！

　　当年的海峡殖民政府允许母校的英文校名被注册为“The Chinese High School”，就如今日新加坡华人的身份证名字下面一栏都写上Chinese的理由是一样的。为什么这样？这是值得新加坡人反思的。

　　至1974年，华侨中学就停止开办高中课程，改为提供四年制中学教育；华中校友的情感产生过巨大的撼动。初级学院的成立，算是弥补了他们一部分的缺憾。然而，依照中华文化的命名习惯，新的初级学院应该被命名为“新加坡南洋华侨中学附属初级学院”（The Chinese High School, incorporating Chinese Junior College），如新加坡南洋女子中学附小、北京大学附中等。

　　然而，新初级学院最终被命名为“华中初级学院”，是铸成今日遗憾的始作俑者。这里的“华中”是南洋华侨中学的简称，这“Hwa Chong”二字的罗马拼音，既不像汉语拼音，也不像方言拼音。这四不像今日还要被延用为校名！

　　既然分了就已经是分了，如今华侨中学要办直通车课程，为什么又要把华初拉来做所谓的“合并”？为什么“合并”后，一定要改名？又为什么只有四种组合的校名让人去选？中英文校名为什么不是分开来投选？既然投选了后，还要教育部批准，为什么不把四个选项让教育部先过目，批准了之后，再来投选？这是当日去投票的人士百思不得其解的问题，也是两校校友深以为憾的原因。

　　所谓早知今日，何必当初。两所华中的分分离离，是我们教育制度一改再改的结果，是造成今日这种四不像校名产生的原因。奇怪的是，“新加坡南洋华侨中学”（The Chinese High School）这弥足珍贵的无形遗产，却无人珍惜，还经常处于危亡的边缘，随时要任人宰割。

　　四个供投票的选择是：华中学院（Hwa　Chong College）、华侨中学（Hwa Chong College）、华侨中学（Hwa Chong Institution）、华侨中学（Hwa Chong Junior College）。7月25日，“华侨中学”以63.4%的较大比数通过投选。这116名支持“华侨中学”的校友，你们的功绩必将载入新加坡南洋华侨及母校光荣的史册，名留青史，你们饮水思源、自强不息的精神值得后人尊敬及学习。

　　遗憾的是，“新加坡南洋华侨中学”（The Chinese High School），这一项值得珍惜的宝贵无形历史遗产，如今却落得只剩下断头断尾的“华侨中学”（Hwa Chong Institution）。我们不知要如何去面对当初创办“新加坡南洋华侨中学”的先贤们！

　　有人会说，我们应该要向前看，要如何如何种种堂而皇之的前瞻。话虽如此，还请允许我先为新加坡这珍贵的无形历史遗产的濒临危亡致以深深的哀悼！

Gathering information through interviewing

Interviewing is the most frequently used method of collecting the necessary information; for much systems work, it is the only method used. The work can be carried out in three steps:

1. Preparation
2. Conducting
3. Reviewing.

Preparation involves general planning, constructing checklists of information wanted, and constructing interview guides. The use of checklists helps to ensure that interviewing is carried out in a well-organised manner. It helps to meet the objectives of the detailed investigation stated earlier, to get the maximum of information in the minimum of time.

Question: What preparation should a be made before an interview?

Conducting: When conducting an interview, an interview guide should be used. It is a list of specific questions to be asked. Its purpose is to aid in the conduct of the interview by giving a well-thought out series of questions in a logical sequence, and ensuring that no important questions are forgotten.

Guidelines for its preparation are:

1. Keep phrasing as simple as possible; avoid multiple questions.
2. Be sure that each question is a suitable one for the person being interviewed. For example, Is he likely to know the answer? Is he the best person to give the accurate answer?
3. Head each guide with the name and title of the interviewee and the date and time of the interview.
4. Number each question and leave plenty of room for writing down answers, remember that you will be asking supplementary questions that are not on the guide.

As a general rule of thumb, interviews should be conducted formally. This is in particular important when the interviewer and interviewee already know each other well and are on friendly terms. The atmosphere of formality helps to ensure that the interview does not degenerate into an aimless chat, and that the analyst gets all the information he needs efficiently and accurately.

Reviewing: Interviewers should review their interview notes immediately after completing each interview. A narrative summary of the interview could be completed the same day if possible, within two days at the most. This summary document will be the working document use in the phases of analysis and design. The interview guides and notes should be kept in the project files until the project is completed, so that if any questions arise, the ‘source’ can be consulted without necessarily having to see the interviewee again.

Just watched I, Robot. Kinda nice. Intriguing. Then read Weekend Today's pg 26 comments about the show being so much action based that the story has become less of a story and more like just some action-packed cinematic CGI sequences. I beg to differ though. The best parts of the show were not the visual stimulant nor the fast paced graphics but the meaning that Isaac Asimov conveyed through his book. My favourite part was not the robot vs robot fight nor the witty will smith banter, but the early parts of the show where Sonny talks. Just listen to him.

because i havent gotten back the full results of any bt2 papers..because tomorrow is college day and sch starts at 11 and there are no tutorials to be done by tomorrow and theres going to be a carnival in school..because its still a couple of days too early to start studying seriously again..and because the weather is simply fantabulous.

Just take a good look at ourselves. Bored. Morose. Dead. Braindead. Broken. Powerless. Inadequate. As for the high on O2 mood, im trying to guess that means something good, but if you look at the respective person's latest entry, he is feeling "...worthless, useless." In other words, we ALL feel bad; negatively charged. And to think we call ourselves the Funtypeople.

Cliche as it sounds, we should (not try to) liven up, because there is simply no point in staying at the bottom of the ocean. It's hard to encourage oneself, therefore i suggest we encourage each other. Look at our good friend Joel. Despite the setbacks, he is still one cheerful person who no doubt cheers up the rest too.
