During May election, hikes in 5-7% GST and cabinet ministers’ pay were widely speculated. Now the 2nd part may also come true. By Seah Chiang Nee.
http://www.littlespeck.com/content/politics/CTrendsPolitics-061126.htm

Minister's Basic salary ranged from US$655,530 to US$819,124 (S$1,166,844 to S$1,458,040) a year.

In comparison, the president of the United States, the most powerful nation in the world, earns US$400,000 and US$50,000 expenses, less than what a junior minister earns in Singapore. In UK, Prime Minister Tony Blair earns US$170,556 annually.

As discussed during the soccerguys general meeting yesterday 25th Nov, an excursion will be proposed to go to Batam for cable skiing, while we are still young and can do these sorts of things. The date is yet to be set, and we will acertain what is day in which the majority of interested parties are available. Probably a saturday as there are no extra rates for weekends.

A full-day pass inclusive of ferryride, lunch and equipment costs $83. Seeing that an hour alone costs $20, and the ferryride is $33, The fullday package seems like a great deal. Delaying the return trip for another day of skiing or for other activities on batam (shopping, waterworld, etc lah, don't think dirty) is also possible as the ticket back is valid for 3 months. Batam time is one hour behind, and the place opens from 9am to sunset. No need for visa, no need to change currency as S$ is accepted everywhere.

As a comparison, the Singapore one at east coast costs $40 for an hour, and $20 for each subsequent hour.

So this is just a dipstick to test the water (no pun intended). Interested parties can i have a show of hands?

More Moneyshagness

GST to be raised to 7%: PM Lee
By Lee Foong Ming, Channel NewsAsia | 13 November 2006 1832 hrs

SINGAPORE: The Goods and Services Tax will be increased to 7 percent, from the current 5 percent. This was announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Parliament on Monday.

Mr Lee said more details would be given in next year's Budget Speech which has been scheduled for 15 February.

The Prime Minister made the announcement when responding to the issues raised by MPs over 4 days of debate - among them the widening income gap in Singapore as a result of globalisation.

Stressing that globalisation was here to stay, and Singaporeans would have to deal with its impact, Mr Lee said this was something that could strain the country's social compact, and this was why it was essential that there would be a whole set of measures to tilt playing field in favour of the lower income group.

Adding that the GST increase would help finance enhanced social safety nets to help this group, Mr Lee said it was better to raise the GST when the economy was doing well. - CNA /dt

there was mention that we might be playing soccer again on the 25th morning. everyone? tag to respond. thank you very much.

remember this?

since we were digging up old memories and i just happened to come across this when i was looking through stuff on my com the other day, i thought yea why not share it.. its not really that funny or entertaining even..but what was interesting was the feeling that i got when i watched it.. i dont quite know how to explain it..but its like deja vu i guess.. cos i never would have remembered any part of this scene off the top of my head before this, but when i watched it, most parts were really familiar.. i don't even remember having had this video until i 'found' it accidentally but now i definitely remember standing there filming while you guys played the game..haha..i mean i think i definitely remember.. hmm..

ahahaha..play game happy until fall down..the people on the left side lousy leh..hahahha

besides the few points that MJ mentioned about
- us calling someone BOSS
- us calling him Fishie
- someone bugging him for a pink balloon

this is my contribution from fragments past.
- there was this song "how can i not love you" that we LOVED till death.
- we used to say the word "wootz" all the time.
- we used to have alot of fun bathing in the SAJC toilet. joel is always the first in last out, and sometimes we bathed in the girl's toilet.
- we used to spend hours deciding what to have for dinner sitting at the SAJC cafe.
- i used to use a gay phone that was like so minute.
- all of you used to know who was rebecca toh si nee, even tho she dunno any of you.
- "i give you fifty cents you give me some"
- SISED: self-imposed strategic emotional downturn. also read:dog face and trembling lips
- we had a S language thingy. where we dun start, but END every word with a "S"

anyone else? pls contribute. hahaha... really gotta hand it to MJ for coming up with this initiative. it really helps ppl realise what we had.
